Following its annual California Spring Trials industry show, Sakata donated thousands of show plants to the fair organizers to be utilized for the beautification of the fairgrounds and the enjoyment of visitors alike.  In addition, the company donated its popular Centennial broccoli seed, along with a pair of coveted San Francisco 49er football tickets, to raise funds in a silent auction event. Funds raised at the silent auction go to The Heritage Foundation.

Sakata is honored to support The Heritage Foundation’s mission to preserve and enrich the heritage of the Salinas Valley Fair and showcase agricultural industries to the community. The Heritage Foundation also offers support to the 4-H and FFA programs, creates agricultural education opportunities, promotes public awareness, and supports ongoing projects sponsored by the Salinas Valley Fair in maintaining and improving the current facility to further service the needs of the community.

Matt Linder, Senior Manager for Sakata Vegetables comments, “Salinas Valley is a hugely important growing region for Sakata and is also the home to one of Sakata’s research stations. We are very pleased to be able to support a community that represents many of our growers and seed distributors in the region.”

Jamie Kitz, Key Account Manager for Sakata Ornamentals, goes on to say, “It’s the least we can do for this great organization. We love flowers and we love the Salinas Valley – it’s a great combination and raising funds for community education is the cherry on top!”

The Salinas Valley Fairgrounds in King City, CA, will host the 2014 Salinas Valley Fair, held May 15-18th, as well as several other events year round, including the Salinas Valley Fair Ranch Rodeo. This year’s Fair will be a traditional country fair with events including horse shows, a rodeo, bull riding, fair food and the Miss Salinas Valley Fair contest.
