Frequently Asked Questions

To become a Flower or Vegetable distributor, please contact Susie Gunther at sgunther@sakata.com. Please indicate the division you interested in, Flowers, Vegetables or both.

Growing enough (but not too much) high quality seed of the many items we carry is a challenging undertaking. We do our best to estimate needs, and then to grow and prepare enough seed to satisfy 100% of those needs, but sometimes we fall short or demand increases over planned supply. Bad weather, pest attack’s, underestimation of demand, and other factors contribute to this problem. Rest assured that we are trying very hard to have every variety we list in sufficient quantity to meet demand. Advance communication with your Sakata distributor regarding your needs, as early as possible, will help us to better project demand.

To the best of our knowledge and based on the Cartegena Protocol on Biosafety:

  • We declare that none of our commercialized varieties, either flowers or vegetables, are Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) products.
  • Our seed production has been carried out under the greatest possible care based on the legal rules, including stipulated isolation distances, to achieve high purity standards and to avoid the presence of off-types, including GMOs.
  • However, it is practically impossible to completely prevent adventitious pollen contamination in seed multiplication areas due to free circulation of pollen by wind and/or insects. For this reason, we are not able to guarantee that there are no traces of off-type plants, including those derived from GMOs, in all of our seed lots.
  • If we decide to release GMO products in the future, we will announce it well in advance.

Commercial growers are invited to request complimentary samples through their local Sakata distributor or a Sakata representative. University or other public trial services may request samples from a Sakata representative.
