Borealis is our newest beet offering an excellent disease package with intermediate resistance to rhizomania (BNYVV) and rhizoctonia (Rs). This beet has great root uniformity and good internal root quality with high sugar content and deep red color. It’s ideal for many regions, showing consistent performance across climates and soil types. Borealis maintains brix levels during storage and under rhizomania infection.

Beets are enjoying a come-back! Not only are they delicious, but nutritious. Beets provide a rich source of carbohydrates and protein, and have high levels of important vitamins, minerals and micronutrients. They are a great source of potassium, magnesium, folic acid, iron, zinc, calcium, phosphorus, sodium, niacin, biotin, betanin and beta-carotene. They also contain the important vitamins – A, B6 and C – plus, powerful antioxidants and soluble fiber.

Resistance Terminology

HR = High resistance: plant varieties that highly restrict the growth and development of the specified pest or pathogen under normal pest or pathogen pressure when compared to susceptible varieties. These plant varieties may, however, exhibit some symptoms or damage under heavy pathogen or pest pressure.

IR = Intermediate resistance: plant varieties that restrict the growth and development of the specified pest or pathogen, but may exhibit a greater range of symptoms or damage compared to “highly resistant” varieties. Intermediately resistant plant varieties will still show less severe symptoms or damage than susceptible plant varieties when grown under similar environmental conditions and/or pathogen or pest pressure.

T = Tolerance: The ability of a plant variety to endure abiotic stress without serious consequences for growth, appearance and yield.
