Sakata Pumpkins Bring Big Smiles and Full Tummies to Woodland Park Zoo!
Sakata’s PNW office left their mark on this year’s Annual Pumpkin Bash at Woodland Park Zoo!
Sakata employees recently got their hands dirty to harvest 4 bins, or about 10,000 lbs. of pumpkins. Sonya Leanos and Dan Martin from Sakata’s Burlington office hand delivered the pumpkins to zoo on Friday Oct. 16th for the weekend-long event held on Saturday and Sunday, October 24-25th.
“The Sakata Seed PNW team was more than happy to contribute to this year’s Pumpkin Bash at the Woodland Park Zoo with the donation of pumpkins from the research division. We were excited to be part of the community in this unique way,” states Sakata’s Pumpkin and Beet Breeder, Laura Ann McLoud.
Donated pumpkins were used for festive animal feedings, toys for the animals, pumpkin carving, fall displays and activities for children attending the celebration. In exchange for Sakata’s donation, Woodland Park Zoo offered 25+ free zoo tickets to SAI personnel (a great perk for employees and their families)! Sakata plans to continue this tradition at the Woodland Park Zoo next year and hopes this will be the beginning of an exciting partnership with the local zoo to provide unused produce to animals.
